What is a building designer?

A qualified building designer works with clients to design and arrange spaces according to their unique needs and the requirements of the space and site. They are able to custom design homes with consideration for orientation, efficiency, flow, function and aesthetics, to create beautiful and comfortable homes. They can also work with Councils to ensure compliance and approvals for proposed works.

Do I need to lodge a DA?

Not all projects require the lodgment of a development application for planning approval. Depending on the Council, the scope of the project, and the design outcome, some projects may be eligible for an expedited approvals process if they are ‘deemed-to-comply’. Your specific circumstances can be discussed at an initial consult. We also provide services to assist with planning approvals.

What happens at an initial consult?

An initial consult is $150 and takes approximately 1.5 hours. This is the first meeting which ideally takes place on site. At this meeting you will be provided with detailed information specific to your property and council requirements. We will discuss your plans and what you’re hoping to achieve, and what some of your options may be.

How much do you charge for your services?

Each project is assessed according to its unique requirements. An initial meeting and site inspection will be undertaken and clients are asked to complete a project brief. From this information a detailed quote (known as a fee proposal) is prepared, which outlines all of the costs and inclusions. Quotes are based on the time required to complete the project’s design work and approvals.

How long does the design process take?

Depending on the complexity of a project, the design process can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks up to a year. There are many factors contributing to the time required to complete a unique and comprehensive design and drawing set. Individual advice on timing can be provided at a time of meeting, based on individual project scope.
